OH MY GOD |
|
Oh my god has been on the road for
five-plus years as they’ve written and recorded the Oh
My God EP (2000) and the albums Well (2001), Action!
(2002), Interrogations & Confessions (2003) and You’re
Too Straight to Love Me (2004). Now, the nasty organ of
ig (who’s toured/played with Junior Wells, Buddy Guy,
Van Morrison, Otis Rush…), the inhumane drumming of Bish
and the society-page scandals of singer/bassist Billy
O’Neill join forces with that…th-th-th-that
thing….GUITAR! Look for longtime Chicago oh my god mate
Matt Lenny to handle the live six-string parts; Jake
Garcia of NYC’s Darediablo (Southern Records) laid ’em
down in the studio.
The album comes out late June on the
brand-new Chicago label Split Red Records…the four-piece
incarnation of the band hits the road now...the OMG
website is getting a total revamp, with audio-visual
tour logs …Giuseppe Andrews (of Troma fame) has already
directed one video and another is on the way…say it: OH
MY GOD!!
PAST PRESS: “Oh my god’s dynamic prog-pop
crams ideas into each song like a deliciously eclectic
pick ’n’ mix...an irresistible cocktail of crunchy,
swirling keyboards and jackhammer drums...a monumental
feast of pile-driving hooks." —Kerrang (UK)
“A sound bigger than the metaphorical
shoulders of its hometown. The sparse instrumentation is
the band’s signature, but crooner Billy O’Neill, whose
rich voice recalls Simple Minds’ Jim Kerr, gives oh my
god its soul. This band would leave The Breakfast Club
with a completely different ending, one that would
strike fear in the hearts of ballpark organists and
offer hope to melody-deprived art-rock fans everywhere.”
—Kansas City Pitch Weekly (Critics’ Pick)
“Not your parents’ art rock...soulful
vocals set against an experimental backdrop of organ and
drums.” —Alternative Press
“Oh my god relies on organ and bass
to create a sound bearing a little resemblance to a
school’s Klaxon system going haywire” —Austin Chronicle
(“Saturday Sleeper” pick for SXSW)

Deconstructing Jim |
Deconstructing Jim is Jeff Julian
(voc/guitar), Matt Yeager (voc/bass), and Brennen
Chouinard (drums), all of whom hail from Chicago’s
southwest area. Julian’s abstract style of songwriting
mixed with Yeager’s matter-of-fact form of composing
comprise a dynamic that gels emotive parts and passages
that rock out. After a full year of touring, writing and
working with Chouinard, the band’s rhythm section is
tighter than ever thanks to Brennen’s cannon-arm
drumming.
The indie-rock band has returned from a year of touring
and writing, taking their sound to a provocative new
level with a three-piece line-up that is melodic and
robust. Socially conscious, political lyrics blend with
a gritty, hard rock sound to comprise the band's new
seven song EP, "A Future Told by Swords." The record was
recorded with Jeff Halland (ex-Houston) at his
Minneapolis' studio, Vaudeville.

The
Rockford Mules |
Whether by fate or folly, the Rockford Mules are a
Minneapolis band. And Minneapolis only because they can
practice there for free. They are more of a ‘tater tot
hotdish in a dirty Lutheran church basement’ band of
Minnesotans than they are your typical popular downtown
metrosexual six stringers. Bigger fans of Mad Dog Vishon
than of Prince. And proud of it. The Rockford Mules
sound simultaneously familiar and foreign. The songs
draw on the earthy elements of southern rock and
electric mud, infused with a 70’s dirty denim sonic
sneer. The lyrics are from a chapped desert hymnal. The
drum and bass sound like the gold tooth snarl of a tough
loved dog. The guitars have balls that only Goliath dare
envy on his bravest day. The Rockford mules were in the
top five of many local folks’ “best of 2006“ picks,
including Chris Roberts of The Currents “local show” and
Drive 105’s HOMEGROWN. Writing and recording has begun
for the sophomore follow up to the mule’s 2006 release,
“Crooked Tooth”. Tentatively titled, “Step Aside Son”,
the spirit, in true mule fashion, continues to turn
deeper into itself, striving always to get layers closer
to the core of the itch of the flyswatting tail. What
once was miles away, is now in the next room.

Pattern
Crawler |
Hailing from separate corners of the
Midwest, the members of Pattern Crawler come together to
create unique, aggressive rock music. Citing
inspirational prog-rock bands like Yes, Rush, The Mars
Volta, and Tool, the group has put their own spin on the
genre, writing moderately complex, interesting
arrangements. With carefully woven guitars, punishing
rhythms, and introspective lyrics, Pattern Crawler
channels the energy of At the Drive-in while maintaining
the composure of bands like Shiner and Hum. Their
eclectic style is a testament to the members’ diverse
musical and personal backgrounds. Pattern Crawler is
what happens when an art teacher, a marching band
drummer, a computer music composer, and a chemist
converge to make music. Currently, Pattern Crawler is in
the midst of recording a seven song EP.
